Né au Chili, écolier en Australie, grandi en France puis mûri en Italie, Héctor Cabello Reyes arrive à Paris au milieu des années Pinochet. Il débute au théâtre à l'âge de 18 ans comme comédien, puis auteur et metteur en scène. Après 10 ans de scène, il commence à écrire pour la télévision : il réalise, joue, écrit pour La Grosse Emission sur Comédie!, puis pour Nulle Part Ailleurs sur Canal +. Après avoir écrit et mis en scène 2000 sketches en quotidien et en direct, il part écrire pour Jean Dujardin et Alexandra Lamy dans Un Gars et Une Fille. Enfin, un matin, sur un coin de table, il tombe sur une coupure de presse de 15 lignes. Dedans, il y a l'embryon de son premier scénario, Le Concert.

Depuis 2002, ses scénarios ont rassemblé en moyenne 1,8 millions de spectateurs par film : outre Le Concert, nominé aux César pour le meilleur scénario original, qui a représenté la France aux Golden Globes, et a réuni 5,5 millions de spectateurs dans le monde, il y a eu Retour chez ma mère (2,2 millions de spectateurs), et d'autres succès comme BarbecueIncognitoBienvenue à Bord etc... Par ailleurs, 9 Mois Ferme d'Albert Dupontel, à l'écriture duquel Héctor Cabello Reyes participe, remporte, outre un succès public (2 Millions de spectateurs), le César du meilleur scénario original.


En 2016, Héctor Cabello Reyes renoue à la fois avec le théâtre (Je vous ecoute avec Bénabar, mis en scène par Isabelle Nanty, au théâtre Tristan Bernard, puis dans toute la France et enfin adapté au Québec, à Montréal), et avec son premier métier, la mise en scène, en réalisant son premier long-métrage, 7 Jours Pas Plus avec Benoît Poelvoorde et Alexandra Lamy et —une première en Europe— une star de Bollywood, Pitobash. Le film, produit par Léonard Glowinski (22h22) et Philippe Carcassonne (Cine@), sort le 30 août 2017. Héctor Cabello Reyes monte alors sa propre structure de production, Shake It Baby productions, grâce à laquelle il développe ses prochains projets, et accompagne de nouveaux talents.

His first movie as a director, 7 Jours Pas Plus, is to be released on august 30th 2017. His first original story, The Concert, adapted by Mathew Robbins (screenwriter of Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" and "Sugarland Express") not only attracted 5.5 million viewers in the world, but was also nominated for the Golden GlobesRetour chez ma mère was in the top 5 french box-office in 2016 (2.2 millions tickets)Barbecue and Bienvenue à Bord were some other recent hits. As a script doctor, he worked on 9 Mois Ferme, who sold 2 million tickets, and won the 2010 Cesar award for the Best Screenplay. As a playwright, he wrote Je vous ecoute along with Bénabar, created on january 2016 in the Tristan Bernard theatre in Paris, and then adapted in Montreal in 2017. He just created SHAKE IT BABY productions, with the goal of developing, packaging and co-producing fiction films.
